Membership Committee
 
Committee Purpose:  To identify viable actions to expand the membership of the Nebraska Writers Guild, consult with the Executive Board and, per their directives, proceed to put actions into effect.  To periodically evaluate membership growth and most productive methods of maintaining and growing membership numbers.  To report to the Executive Board and/or general membership as requested.
 
Chair  Responsibilities:
 
1.    To recruit at least two additional committee members (one from the eastern half of the state and one from the western half) willing to communicate on a regular and timely basis for appropriate discussions of NWG recruitment needs.
2.    To facilitate and assure documentation of discussions of NWG recruitment.
3.    To identify appropriate recruitment and retention actions, recruit and appoint responsible parties and periodically request report on actions and results.
4.    To submit any anticipated expense needs to the Executive Board for approval PRIOR to putting that action into effect.
5.    To present report of meetings and actions to the Executive Board as requested.    
 
CHAIR: Scott Lucus   North Platte, Ne. Scott is a Nuclear Medicine Department Manager with published credits that include poems in regional, national, and international magazines. He also writes short stories and is hoping to expand into magazine articles. His first book, Lies, Nostalgia, and Cow Gas, will be released in Jan of 2008. He is very active in local organizations and boards including writing groups. Scott is new to the guild.

Publications Team:
 
Committee Purpose:  To evaluate and produce the regular publications of the Nebraska Writers Guild, the annual BULLETIN Magazine and the BROADSIDE Newsletter, per the needs and expectations of the membership in a cost-effective manner..   
 
Chair/Editor Responsibilities:
 
1.    To recruit a Publications Team to include at least one reporter from the Eastern half of the state and one from the Western half AND one reporter for each of the genres of poetry, fiction and non-fiction, all willing to communicate on a regular and timely basis for appropriate discussions of NWG publications needs and to supply information and articles for the NWG publications as needed.
2.    To facilitate and assure documentation of discussions of NWG publications, reporting activities and committee decisions or problems to the Executive Board as necessary and/or as requested.
3.    To evaluate the look, content/scope, publication schedule and reporting deadlines, as well as cost-effective distribution (per "Members Only" access on the organization's website/Yahoo list home page vs. hard copy mailings or mailings only to requesting members without Internet access) of the NWG's annual BULLETIN Magazine and NWG's BROADSIDE Newsletter to meet the needs of the membership.  
4.    To submit any anticipated expense needs to the Executive Board for approval PRIOR to putting that action into effect and to provide an evaluation of past year's budget, as well a budget projection for the coming year at the October Board meeting
 

CHAIR and Editor:  Gregory M. Hall (North Bend) In addition to writing mainstream, sci-fi, fantasy, and horror, Greg M. Hall is a Construction Management and Instructional Design Consultant, with clients from all over the U.S. and Canada.  He's had a half-dozen short stories online and in print; his first book, Traffic Control, is expected to be released in Spring 2010.  In addition to fiction, Greg also hosts a couple of podcasts and occasionally guest-spots with local bands.  On the web, Greg's work can be found at www.gregmhall.com.  Greg lives in a small town with his wife, six kids, and pet tortoise.

NWG Publicity:
 
Committee Purpose:  To identify and facilitate programs to advertise and promote the organization across the state of Nebraska and the nation, as appropriate to the principles of the Nebraska Writers Guild.  
 
Chair Responsibilities:
 
1.    To recruit at least two additional committee members willing to communicate on a regular and timely basis for appropriate discussions of publicizing NWG.
2.    To facilitate and assure documentation of a review of NWG publicity wherein the organization and dues-paid members will receive public notice.
3.    To identify appropriate publicity actions, recruit and appoint responsible parties and periodically request report on actions and results.
4.    To submit any anticipated expense needs to the Executive Board for approval PRIOR to putting that action into effect.
5.    To present report of meetings and actions to the Executive Board as requested
6.    To promptly report to the Executive Board any negative publicity of the organization or any non-member claiming affiliation with the organization.
 
CHAIR:   Cyndy Salzmann  Omaha, is a multi-published author in both fiction and nonfiction, a popular national speaker-and a professional organizer. Her latest project is a lighthearted mystery series set in Omaha which is published by Howard Books-an imprint of Simon & Schuster Publishing Company.
