Judy Rosenkotter, Historian

Grand Island -- After graduating from Grand Island’s Saint Francis School of Nursing in 1960, Judy went into the U.S. Army Nurse Corp to serve in Viet Nam. She returned home to a “normal” life until along came Desert Storm. Despite her being “slightly” over the usual age for re-enlistment, the need for medical personnel was great. She reentered active duty and ran a hospital unit in Saudi Arabia, retiring with the rank of Major. Her honors from that campaign include a Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. She then earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Management from Bellevue University in 1994 and shortly thereafter was elected as Hall County Supervisor. Her civilian resume includes an appointment as Nebraska Admiral by Governor Kay Orr. She is currently working on a collection of memoirs of Nebraska military nurses. Her membership in several veterans’ organizations has given her access to her former “comrades-in-arms.”
