The NWG

Conducting business as a Non-Profit 501(c)6 Corporation, the Nebraska Writers Guild, Inc, is a professional association for writers of all disciplines, literary agents, educators, publishers, librarians, and youth who are interested in promoting the craft of writing in Nebraska. The organization offers aspring writers, award winning authors, and everyone in between a network for improving their craft.

Among the benefits of membership are the Spring and Fall conferences, a quarterly newsletter as well as an annual magazine, a closed Yahoo list for member communication and Guild-sponsored speaking opportunities for self-promotion and to grow the craft of quality writing throughout the state.

Excellence in Writing since 1925

Founded in 1925, NWG is one of the oldest continuous writers' organization in the country. It counts among its charter members Bess Streeter Aldrich, Dorothy Canfield Fisher, John G. Neihardt, Louise Pound, Mari Sandoz, and A.E. Sheldon (chair of the Nebraska State Historical Society). Residing in New York, Willa Cather was one of the first members to sign up.

During that first year, two of NWG's members made the Los Angeles Public Library's and Saturday Review of Literature's list of ten writers most representative of American life and 25 members appeared in Who's Who in America.

That prestigious quality of writing has continued throughout the years with numerous award-winning authors and genre leaders listed on the rolls of the Nebraska Writers Guild as documented at the Nebraska State Historical Society and in the works collected at the Jane Pope Geske Room in Lincoln's Bennett Martin Library.

You are invited to browse the NWG website to discover all this organization has to offer. Feel free to provide feedback on the organization or this website to the Nebraska Writers Guild presiding president
Sally J Walker.
