WRITE ACROSS NEBRASKA
Valentine – Western Nebraska
July 16-17-18, 2010
RETREAT CONCEPT: Open to all writers (not just NWG members), this “time apart” from your regular day-to-day demands, is intended to motivate you to WRITE as much as possible. You may want to separate yourself from others to focus OR you have the option of participating in chats with other writers, brief workshops and/or peer critiques of works-in-progress. NOTE: You do not have to participate in the entire weekend, but may choose to come for one day or any portion. Registering in advance is good manners.
Significant others (spouses) will find plenty of opportunities to commiserate with people who also understand the unique demands of “living with a writer.” The area also offers opportunities for relaxation, touring, shopping.

Valentine is a scenic area of the Sandhills that offers wonderful, hiking, biking, landscape and wildlife photography. Visitors might like to visit the Fish Hatchery and the Wild Game Preserve, a museum of pioneer history or enjoy the twin screen movie theater, canoeing the Niobrara or casino entertainment north of Valentine just over the S.D. border.
There are other motels besides the Niobrara Lodge but a block of 10 rooms have been reserved there and we are using their conference room, which is spacious, quiet and attractive. It is the newest lodging available although the other motels are nice.
Restaurant choices are many: The Bunk House, Jordan's Fine Dining and The Peppermill and McDonald's all on Hwy. 20. There's also the Canyon Inn, a drive-in, Taco Johns and Subway on Main.
When in Valentine be sure to stop in at the following business that support the activities of writers: Young's Western Wear, The Arc and The Plains Trading Company. All three businesses stock books in quite a variety: Inspirational, best sellers, historical/western, poetry and books by Nebraska authors as well as local authors.
